Did you know that when you purchase one of our exclusive prints, it's like buying (and wearing) a work of art? You’re not only getting an adorable outfit, but you’re also supporting a female artist or designer who is passionate about bringing art and joy into the world.

Our Behind The Print series gives us an intimate look at the artists who hand or digitally draw prints exclusively for Magnetic Me. We learn about what inspires them and their unique design process.

Today, we talk to Jennifer Jaklitsch, the lead designer for Magnetic Me who created our Lucky Charm print.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

I am the lead designer at Magnetic Me and have been with the company since 2021. After earning a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, I have been working in the childrenswear industry for over twenty years. I love kidswear, the use of color, and our whimsical prints are a joy to create every season.

Q: What about your source of inspiration as an artist?

Inspiration comes from everywhere, whether it be from passing someone on the street with interesting style to walking the pine barrens of Long Island in nature. I use Pinterest, as well as, get inspiring design direction from the color palettes and interesting patterns found in stores around New York City.

Q: What was your inspiration for the Lucky Charm print?

I wanted to add a ladybug print to the seasonal mix, but not just the usual shapes you see from other brands. If you look close enough the ladybug bodies are actually dice, hence the Lucky Charm pun was born. We have lots of fun as a team naming our prints!

Q: Can you tell us a bit about your design process?

I start by picking out specific themes and then draw in Adobe Illustrator to create the images and print repeats.

Q: How does it make you feel to know this print exists as living art in the world? What feelings or emotions do you hope this print evokes?

I hope it brings joy to anyone who sees it and makes people laugh once they notice these are not your usual ladybugs. We love a “wink, wink” at Magnetic Me!

Q: Tell us a bit more about yourself – a few fun facts, perhaps?

I am a native New Yorker, living on Long Island. I love to craft, sew, and make quilts in my spare time. I am also obsessed with Agatha Christie novels, I think I have read all of her books.
